Make Your Own Magnetic Spice Rack

I have recently started experimenting with cooking a bit more, which resulted in a counter top cluttered with spice jars. The solution: A magnetic spice rack! They are incredibly useful, and they look great too.

You can buy them ready made from places like Amazon, but the shipping to The Netherlands was insane, and there are only 6 jars per rack on those, which wouldn't quite cut it. So I made one myself!

Okay, "made" is a big word here. This has got to be one of the easiest projects ever. All you need is some magnetic containers (I got the GRUNDTAL ones at Ikea) and a magntic or iron surface. I bought a SPONTAN magnet board at Ikea, but if you have a big fridge, that will work just as well.

The advantage of buying the Ikea containers is that you can always buy more when your spice collection grows.

All you need to do is put up your magnet board (quite a task, if you are a mess with power tools like I am!), fill your jars, stick them to your board, and there you have it, your own customized magnetic spice rack!

I stuck little labels with the spices names on the back of each jar, just so I won't get a nasty surprise of paprika powder on my pancakes instead of cinnamon.

Let me know if you decide to make one too, I'd love to see the result!

P.S. Don't you just love my Star Trek salt & pepper shakers? They were a gift from Mr.Licious. Ah, what a lovely nerd couple we make!

P.S.2. Do not attempt to go buy this magnetic rack by bike. I tried and failed miserably.
