Wrecking = Love (Wreck This Journal)

The shop, migraines and summer social life prevented me from blogging the past week, but no fear, I won't desert you any longer.

Wreck This Journal (New)
My journal when it was all new and pretty

At the Blythe Picknick in Utrecht last month, I saw Juul's "Wreck This Journal" in real life, and I knew I had to order one for myself right away. Over the past weeks I have decided that wrecking = love!

Wreck This Journal

Wreck This Journal

The idea about the journal is that you get to make something you get attached to, and then have to wreck it. Every page has an assignment, they vary from "Take this journal into the shower with you" to "Document your food". Today I decided to go for the assignment on the outside of the book: "Tape this journal closed. Mail it to yourself". A waste of stamps? Maybe. But I can tell you I am looking forward to the wreckage the sorting machines at the post office will do to my journal! Maybe it won't even come back at all? That would be sad!

Wreck This Journal

If you are creative, and a perfectionist like me who likes to keep things pretty and shudders at cracking the spine of a new book (the first assignment!), or you just like being messy, go buy this journal. It is so much fun! It's by "Keri Smith" and available here at Amazon, at Amazon.co.uk and for the Dutchies, Bol.com has it too!

  3. It is fun isn't it? I haven't taken mine in the shower yet but I've made holes with pencils and collected fruit stickers so far. I hated creasing the spine too :)

  4. So brilliant! I saw these a while back and was very tempted having been a hopeless journal keeper many times before... (Perfectionism, I wonder?) But stuff happened and I never did. Could be that this book of wreckage might be the answer to breaking through that writer's block?? Look forward to seeing how your journey of destruction works out, and I love it that you're mailing it to yourself... so cool! Can't wait to see it's transformation...

  5. I really want to find one of these, its such a fun idea for a book :) Hopefully it comes back to you, would probably end up getting stolen here or not even leaving the mail office because its not in a box or envelope :/

  6. Ooooh! I have had my eye on that journal for a loooong time (and LOVE everything Keri Smith does)... but I think I would have a hard time "wrecking" it! I know that's the whole point, but I have a feeling that it would just sit on my bookshelf unused. Good for you though, brave girl :) You'll have to share more photos of it as your "wrecking" journey continues!

P.S. If you haven't already, I highly recommend checking out some of the "Wreck This Journal" Flickr groups! Lots of inspiration there I'm sure :)

  7. Good to see you back! Hope the migraines will stay away for a while. A friend of mine has the same, so I know it can be very hard.
