Etsy Experiment Update

A lot of you seemed to be interested in an update about my Etsy Experiment. For a few days I listed, relisted, or renewed about 5 items a day.

My conclusion: It didn't work.

I think it will work if you're in the right time zone, but unfortunately Central European Time is not that time zone. I can list all I want during "my" day, but as soon as it's afternoon in the US, and I go to bed, many many listings will cover mine, so it's all buried again anyway.

I don't know if anyone from Europe has tried before, and how it worked out for them, but promoting off-etsy and on the forums definitely works better for me.

I have made a few sales this week, all of them to new Etsians, which also leads me to believe that I should concentrate on off-Etsy promoting. I already did, because of my web shop, but I think it also benefits my Etsy shop more than listing several items a day.

Iiiiiiiiek at what my Etsy bill is going to be this month though! HELP! Ah well, at least I got to list all my pretty new earrings and pendants!

  1. Thanks for sharing your experience with this. I am also outside 'etsy time' being from Australia. What do you do to promote outside etsy?
I have read in the etsy forums that having a 'full' shop is better for making sales...maybe that will be the benefit from this etsy experiment!
    Good luck.

  3. Well, thank you for keeping us updated with this experiment, even if it seems to have not worked.... :( Perhaps it was just a strange day.

Congrats on your etsy sales though! And thank you for all of your comments while I was away! :) You are too sweet!

  5. hmm relisting and renewing always seem to work for me but mainly because my customers are american and pretty much in the same time zone as me. I dont necessarily sell that particular item but I usually sell something else in my shop. I'm not even if it's directly related to relisting/renewing because I promote a lot off etsy. I always wondered what would happen if i could list or renew during the hours I sleep though..

  7. Thanks for the information. I definitely need to focus more on off-Etsy promotion. I just don't really know where.

I wanted to also let you know that I linked here from my BlogRush widget on my own blog. Your blog was listed so I clicked!

  8. Thanks for letting us know, was interesting to read about it. I think we suffer a lot with it being so American. :/ At the moment I feel like I'm listing things that aren't going to sell. :( So slow!

  9. I didn't think it'd work too, I believe the correct tags are more important!

  11. I agree with you dailydesignspot..Etsy is just one avenue for us. It is a fun one and I have met some great people through it. But we must also market ourselves in many different ways!

  12. It's great you tried though, people improve by trial and error so at least you know now rather than just wondering what if!
Love the image you used in this entry by the way!

  15. Hi Tizzy. I just stumbled across you doing a google search. I am also on Etsy and often search for things I like by key word and haven't come across you there, which is a surprise. I am in love with your work and the general aesthetic of your blog and flickr. I'll be linking to you on my blog and there will be some jewelry orders come your way soon from me too. ;)
